3-D Ionospheric Electron Density Variations during the 2017 Great American Solar Eclipse: A Revisit

چکیده

This paper studies the three-dimensional (3-D) ionospheric electron density variation over continental US and adjacent regions during August 2017 Great American Solar Eclipse event, using Millstone Hill incoherent scatter radar observations, ionosonde data, Swarm satellite measurements, a new TEC-based data assimilation system (TIDAS). The TIDAS can reconstruct 3-D distribution regions, with spatial–temporal resolution of 1∘× 1∘ in latitude longitude, 20 km altitude, 5 min universal time. combination multi-instrumental observations high-resolution products well represent dynamic response to solar eclipse, providing important altitude information fine-scale details. Results show that eclipse-induced depletion exceed 50% around F2-layer peak height between 200 300 km. recovery following maximum exhibits an altitude-dependent feature, lower altitudes exhibiting faster than F2 region above. feature was also characterized by post-eclipse enhancement 15–30%, which is particularly prominent topside ionosphere at above

Variations in the sky brightness during a lunar eclipse

A total lunar eclipse is conjectured to have influence on the physical conditions of an environmental area, particularly on the brightness of the sky. The phenomenon might also be relevant on weather parameters change on Earth, such as temperature, humidity and pressure, though a straightforward correlation is not easy to establish. This work mainly aims at measuring the brightness of the sky a...

Variations of the ionospheric electron density during the Bhuj seismic event

Ionospheric perturbations by natural geophysical activity, such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, have been studied since the great Alaskan earthquake in 1964. Measurements made from the ground show a variation of the critical frequency of the ionosphere layers before and after the shock. In this paper, we present an experimental investigation of the electron density variations around the ...

Electron Density Variations during Ultraviolet Transient Events

High-resolution temporal observations performed with the SUMER spectrometer on SoHO provide an opportunity to investigate the electron density variations in thèquiet Sun' solar transition region due to UV transient events. Two datasets obtained in the density sensitive lines belonging to the O iv 1400 A multiplet were searched for such events, leading to the identiication of two explosive event...

Tomographic Reconstruction of the Ionospheric Electron Density in term of Wavelets

Ionospheric tomography is a method to investigate the ionospheric electron density in two or three dimensions. In this study, the function-based tomographic technique has been used for regional reconstruction of a 3D tomographic model of the ionospheric electron density using the GPS measurements of the Iranian Permanent GPS Network. Two-dimensional Haar wavelets and empirical orthogonal functi...
